ABOUT RICK MCNEIL

Recently retired as a partner of an esteemed AmLaw 100 law firm, where he was, principally, a trial lawyer specializing in environmental and land use counseling and litigation, Rick continues to practice and advocate for causes and clients that ignite his passion for public service and human dignity, including those involving the vindication of rights on behalf of historically underserved communities, and typically involving the legal areas of environmental, land use, probate, and general real estate and business law and litigation, including California laws like Proposition 65, the Coastal Act, the Consumer Legal Remedies Act, and CEQA.Rick also is active in the Orange County Bar Association, where he serves on (and formerly served as Chair of) the OCBA’s Diversity Committee, the Racial Injustice Task Force, the Environmental Law Section and the Real Estate Section, as well as the OCBA Board of Directors. He also is active in the Los Angeles County Bar Association.In 2022, Rick was the recipient of the Orange County Bar Association’s distinguished Harmon G. Scoville Lifetime Achievement Award for Legal Excellence and Significant Contributions to the Aspirations of the legal profession embodied in the Constitution and in the principles of jurisprudence that are the foundation of the legal system in the United States.In 2025, Rick was recognized by the Los Angeles County Bar Association as a Black History Month Honoree. Rick remains active in established national legal societies, such as the American Law Institute, where he is a sustaining life member and continues to contribute to the revision of various of the restatements, and currently is involved in the Restatement (Fourth), of Property, and the Restatement (Third), of Torts.Rick also is a current or former member of Board of Directors of the Legal Aid Society, the ELDR Center for Disability Rights, and two Los Angeles and Orange County symphonic choral organizations that provide free after-school music education to inner city children in historically underserved communities, the Pacific Chorale and the Long Beach Camerata Singers, and the Orange County Thurgood Marshall Bar Association and the Los Angeles County John M. Langston Bar Association.Rick is also an experienced mediator, having mediated over the last decade dozens of environmental, civil rights, consumer protection, and real estate and business disputes pending in the Los Angeles Superior Court and in the United States District Court, Central District, of California.
