Currently managing the SQL Server Hardware Consolidation and Refresh project in which we will upgrade hardware and virtualize approximately 55% of SQL Servers, reducing the physical footprint, lowering total cost of ownership and portability- Completed the DB2 V10 for z/OS Upgrade Project at Progressive Insurance in November, 2013. The project upgraded our Mainframe DB2 z/OS software from Version 8 to Version 10. Sounds simple enough, however this upgrade included 18 Platforms, 120+ Applications and 20 Datasharing group migrations. Completing the V10 Conversion Mode migration by September, 2012 enabled Progressive to avoid a monthly dual maintenance charge. The migration to DB2 V10 positions Progressive to take advantage of future Target Architecture for the Mainframe and DB2. Scope of the project also included- Upgrading 500 application servers to DB2 V9.7.5 (which is DB2 V10 exploitive). A six-fold reduction in labor was achieved by developing a bundled approach to the conversion- Converting targeted SQL Stored Procedures to Native Stored Procedures resulting in a MIPs reduction on the mainframe- Developing a conversion approach that bypassed a conversion to DB2 V9 (went directly from V8 to V10), thereby dramatically reducing A-Side involvement in what would have been needed for another migration- The enhanced database reorg utility provided by IBM allowed us to remove a third party tool, thereby providing a reduction in complexity of our environment- Completed the DB2 Client Upgrade Project in Q4, 2011 in which we upgraded DB2 client software on 1,221 Application Servers; 51 Build servers, 32 Gateway Servers, and 7,241 Desktops/Laptops. Removed DB2 client software from 178 Application Servers and 11,495 Desktops/Laptops. Retired 97 Application Servers.
