ABOUT RICK GUTHRIE
Responsible for the growth, development, and technical direction of a multi-million dollar Geohazards practice that provides unique solutions that matter: we save lives, reduce the impact of geohazards, save infrastructure, and help communities worldwide. Our expert team of specialists solve slope, river, karst, and erosion problems related to engineering, construction, and the natural environment. I\'m Professional Geoscientist with 30 years of experience and particular expertise in Geohazards and Risk assessment. A sought-after speaker and reasonably accomplished author I have more than 100 publications in books, journals, government publications and conference proceedings. I provide leadership and mentorship to expert teams, and offer expert geotechnical analysis and advice to natural resource management, environmental assessment, public safety, urban development, parks management and industry, around the world. My technical training and background includes the assessment of cause and impact of geomorphic systems such as slopes, shorelines and rivers, the quantification of landslide runout and mobility, hazard and risk mapping, risk assessment, management and communication, the impact of climate changes, hydrologic changes and the impacts to and from development. Technical Specializations: • Geomorphological mapping; building models of landforms, processes, hazards and risks and integrating models into engineering design, management, and mitigation solutions (includes terrain mapping) • Landslide inventory mapping, magnitude-frequency analysis, quantitative hazard and risk analysis, probability of failure • Model development to provide unique geohazards solutions including DebrisFlow Predictor (Debris flow runout software), STORM (real time monitoring solutions), Probability of Failure, Time to Failure, and others. • Hazard and Risk mapping • Risk Assessment, Management and Communication; integration of risk into total risk models, quantifying risk reduction from mitigation • Interpretation of air photograph, satellite and LiDAR imagery (including change detection), InSAR • Expert witness and semi-judicial inquiries Management Specializations: • Business development and top line growth • Development and growth of high performing technical teams • Collaboration and facilitation • Technical innovation and leadership
