ABOUT RICK GITTLEMAN
Rick Gittleman’s 40-year career has cultivated a unique perspective on Africa stemming from a diverse range of experiences on the continent. He first developed an interest in international affairs when he was a student at Brown University and when he served with the Peace Corps from 1977 to 1979 in the Bas Zaire province of Zaire. After graduating from law school, he joined a Washington, D.C-based law firm and was transferred to their Kinshasa, Zaire office in 1984, where he lived and worked for seven years. Though this time, he specialized on mining issues and travelled extensively throughout Africa for clients. He then worked in Brussels from 1990 to 1997 for the US law firm Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld. He continued his work on African issues in the extractive industry. In 1997, he moved to Washington, D.C. where he focused as a partner at Akin Gump on mergers, acquisitions and project finance for energy clients. In 2011 he become a Senior Vice President at Freeport McMoRan Africa. From 2009 through 2014 he lived in Fungurume, Katanga, Democratic Republic of Congo at Freeport’s Congo mine site. His life-long experience in Africa has allowed him to approach these ventures with a panoramic understanding of life at all levels of Africa society. In 2015, he founded United for Africa’s Democratic Future, and informed and educated policy makers in the U.S. and Europe for free and fair elections throughout Africa. He assisted in capacity building engagements to support African governments that hold free and fair elections. Rick has used this experience to found RMG Minerals LLC. RMG Minerals uses innovative strategies to fuel business growth and stability in the mining sector. These cohesive strategies arm businesses and governments with the team’s experienced perspective on the continent and throughout international policy landscapes. Moreover, RMG Minerals and its partners are engaged in developing and investing in various mining opportunities throughout the globe.
