About Richard Chang

I am a journalist, editor and writer based in Southern California. I\'m also a QM-certified college educator and visual art critic. I currently serve as Senior Editor for Culture OC, a nonprofit news site. I also work as a writer and communications specialist at Cal State Long Beach, and served as a journalism instructor at CSULB, Orange Coast College and the faculty advisor for The Poly Post, Cal Poly Pomona\'s award-winning student newspaper and website. I have been an editor or reporter at a number of daily and weekly publications. I served as arts & culture editor of L.A. Weekly, one of the nation\'s oldest alternative newspapers. Before that, I was associate editor of THE Journal, a national magazine and website that covers technology in K-12 education. I was also editor-in-chief of Premiere OC, a performing and visual arts magazine. I served as the Orange County Register\'s arts & entertainment reporter and visual art critic for 14 1/2 years and have received many awards, including first place for Best Round-up at the 2023 OC Press Club Awards; first place at the 2020 Southern California Journalism Awards for Culture News, Online; first place in Arts & Entertainment (sponsored content) at the 2022 OC Press Club Awards; second place in the 2020 California Journalism Awards for digital writing; and Best Arts and Culture Review and Best Blog in Orange County in 2010. I was an arts and culture reporter at the Santa Fe New Mexican, and an entertainment and pop culture reporter at the Bakersfield Californian. I have taught journalism at Cal Poly Pomona, UCLA, Glendale Community College and Cal State Fullerton.In addition, I have some experience in PR and marketing, serving as the Director of Public Relations and Marketing for the Sawdust Art Festival in Laguna Beach.Over the years I have contributed to a number of publications, including the L.A. Times, Voice of OC, the Daily Pilot, Modern Painters, artinfo.com, Art + Auction, Coast Magazine, Laguna Beach Magazine, Newport Beach Magazine, Montage Magazine, Omni Escapes, UCI\'s Connect magazine, Art Ltd, ArtVoices Magazine, Chapman Magazine and the Laguna Beach Independent. I have also written for ARTnews, AsianWeek, Tribal College Journal and the San Francisco Bay Guardian.I have served as president, VP and national board representative of the Asian American Journalists Assoc, Los Angeles Chapter. I served as vice president of the O.C. Press Club from 20••••18. Currently I\'m faculty advisor for the AAJA chapter at Cal State Long Beach.I enjoy writing, learning and teaching.
