ABOUT RICHEL OHENEWAA ATTAFUAH
I am a statistics graduate student at Miami University focused on building applied machine learning systems that are reliable, interpretable, and decision-ready.My work focuses on time-series and spatio-temporal forecasting, particularly for real-world systems such as traffic flow and electric vehicle charging demand.Rather than only pursuing model complexity, I focus strongly on evaluation-first modeling:• building strong baselines before deep learning• preventing data leakage in forecasting• validating models with walk-forward evaluation• choosing metrics aligned with real-world decisionsRecent work includes designing and comparing deep learning architectures for large-scale traffic forecasting across 1,806 monitoring stations, including:• CNN-GRU-LSTM hybrid models • Spatio-Temporal Graph Convolutional Networks (STGCN) • Graph WaveNet • GRU and LSTM baselines These models were evaluated across multiple prediction horizons (12–72 hours) to better understand how forecasting difficulty grows over time.Alongside research, I enjoy translating complex machine learning ideas into clear explanations through writing and teaching. I publish educational articles on Medium and build beginner-friendly Python and data science content on YouTube.Technical stack:Python • PyTorch • TensorFlow • scikit-learn • Pandas • Jupyter • GitI am currently seeking a Summer 2026 Data Science or Machine Learning internship where I can contribute to real-world analytical problems while continuing to grow as a researcher and practitioner.
