ABOUT RICHARD GORDON

After two decades working in public service for the world’s biggest news brand I decided to take on a new challenge at the world’s biggest tour operator. I built many transferable skills whilst working for the BBC which helped me secure my role at TUI. Most of my BBC career was spent in ‘live and continuous’ news on rolling news channels, reacting to breaking news and events, so the transition to the UK head office of one of my passions - travel - was a natural step for me. I spent two years in Customer Operations (Duty Office) at TUI HQ. This is the 24/7 incident response team for any on-the-day disruption to the customer experience, working closely with flight operations as well as cruise, retail, ski and destination teams.Specialising in crisis communications I have experience of managing as part of a team a number of high profile incidents including the global IT outage of summer 2024, Manchester airport power outage, wildfires in Greece and Italy. I have experience in dealing with sensitive cases such as deaths in resorts, passenger injuries and customers who find themselves in vulnerable positions abroad. With an optimistic attitude I can adapt to challenging situations and deal with complex problems, both high profile and on a more local level. I am used to thinking on my feet, working under pressure and drafting communications and scripts in ever changing situations. Reacting to events is what I have done for more than two decades and I relish the challenge. Following a few months off on a career break I decided to try something completely different in hospitality. Gail’s appealed to me as a customer, and through those eyes I have been following their impressive training plan. I completed my two week in-depth training plan in Gail’s Marlow bakery. I learnt new skills essential to running a successful operation including kitchen and baking, stock control and inventory, ordering, food hygiene and safety, allergens awareness, health and safety, data security standards, disability awareness and much more. I am now based at the Gail’s bakery in Beaconsfield which is my main base as a Team Leader, front-of-house.
