About Richard Fay
I believe that teams and organizations are successful when they can demonstrate three core competencies: Identifying the right problems to solve, delivering high-value solutions, and adapting quickly and gracefully when required. All of the skills, frameworks, and ways of working I teach are targeted at helping groups excel in these areas. I’m also a firm believer in meeting groups where they are and building a tailored approach to the specific needs of my clients. Specialties: Leadership; Project Delivery; Individual and Team Training; Time Management; Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC); Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD); Workflow Design; Test Driven Development; Agile/Scrum/Kanban Development; Agile Estimating/Forecasting; Scaled Agile Frameworks (SAFe/Nexus/Scrum@Scale); DevOps; AI Implementation; JIRA/Atlassian Administration; Microsoft Office.
Experience
Enterprise Business Agility Strategist
Jan 2022 — Present
Coached a Fortune 500 client through a multi-year transition from a project-based organizational structure to one based on Products and Outcomes. Twelve independent portfolios with separate priorities were consolidated down to three; each with a product pipeline aligned to enterprise business initiatives. Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) were created and measured to ensure new development efforts performed as expected and to guide future development decisions.Stood up discovery pipelines for each of the three portfolios, including Opportunity Assessment (portfolio-level) and Solution Discovery (program-level). Transitioned from a monolithic delivery strategy to an incremental delivery model focused on frequent delivery of end-user value. Key stakeholders and business partners were incorporated into each step of the delivery process to validate design decisions and ensure high-value product deliveries.Personally stood up four agile programs, each with multiple delivery teams working in Scrum and/or Kanban. Programs engaged in quarterly planning, where teams aligned on strategic goals and worked through internal and external dependencies. Programs learned to balance and prioritize run/grow/transform work in a single program backlog containing work from multiple focus areas. Programs were empowered to experiment and explore different solutions to ensure delivery of high-value deliveries.Implemented the Atlassian tool suite to replace sunsetting solutions. Jira, Confluence, Align, and Analytics were configured to meet the needs of thousands of users. Worked actively with Atlassian to trial new product implementations through internal pilot programs. Trained portfolios, programs, and teams on gathering and interpreting key progress metrics for use in effective decision-making.
