ABOUT RICHARD SMITHERS

An international expert on climate adaptation and ecosystem-based issues, working in the environmental sector for 40+ years, I have wide-ranging experience of: • Evidence and policy development• Policy, programme and technical monitoring, evaluation and impact assessment• Systematic rapid evidence assessment• Natural resource management, and• Stakeholder and citizen engagement.Since 1998, many of my projects have related to (sub)national adaptation planning. For example, I led development of the State of Palestine’s NAP (among the first globally), directed evaluation of the EU Adaptation Strategy 2013-20, supported the impact assessment for the new Strategy 2021-27, and developed an adaptation toolkit targeting nature-based solutions for the World\'s largest public works programme (MGNREGS in India).
