About Richard V.

I am a self-motivated leader and detail-oriented engineer and team manager.I grew up around the oil and gas industry in the Odessa/Midland area of West Texas. I learned to weld through SkillsUSA (formerly Vocational Industrial Clubs of America) in high school. Welding led me to pursue an education and a career in engineering.I attained my bachelor\'s degree from Texas A&M University at Galveston in Marine Engineering Technology, which is a mix of mechanical and electrical engineering with an emphasis on ship propulsion systems. The hands-on courses and experience I gained during my undergraduate piqued my interest in gas turbines and led me to a career in the power generation industry.I spent eight years with Sulzer Turbo Services as a Combustion Component Repair Engineer, Fuel Nozzle Repair Engineer, Operations Manager, and Technical Manager on heavy duty gas turbine repairs division.I worked for Chevron Pipeline and Power for 5 years utilizing my skills as a Gas Turbine Engineer and Repair Specialist for Chevron. I helped Chevron manage a global fleet of heavy frame gas turbines and their subsequent capital part repairs, turnaround planning, and part planning/inventory strategies.I currently work at Sulzer Turbo Services - La Porte as Superintendent of the Houston Aeroderivative Gas Turbine Repairs Division. We specialize in the repair and overhaul of several aero engines for the industrial and power sectors.I take a thorough and practical approach to my work. I excel at finding value-adding processes and efficiency improvements, and in project management. I enjoy teaching others and working in teams. Change and new challenges are something I am always open to tackling.Outside of work you can find me on the nearest disc golf course honing my skills and enjoying the outdoors, or spending time with my family and friends, likely near a grill.
