As an Adjunct Professor at San Diego City College, I teach in the Alcohol & Other Drug Studies (AODS) program & the Psychology Department, both part of the Behavioral & Social Sciences Division. The AODS program is a state-accredited vocational training pathway for Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Counselor certification, while the Psychology Department offers foundational education in human behavior & mental processes.Courses Taught:• AODS 154: Law & Ethics for Addiction Counselors – Legal & ethical considerations in SUD counseling, including confidentiality, informed consent, & professional boundaries.• AODS 156: Case Management – Strategies for client advocacy, care coordination, documentation, & service planning.• PSYC 101: General Psychology – Core concepts of psychology, including development, cognition, emotion, & behavior.Responsibilities:•Create & deliver student-centered lectures & interactive activities tailored to diverse learning styles.• Design syllabi, assignments, & assessments aligned with accreditation st & ards.• Evaluate & provide constructive feedback to support student growth & skill development.• Stay current with research & best practices in addiction counseling & psychology.• Foster an inclusive, supportive learning environment that promotes critical thinking & discussion.• Mentor students pursuing careers in SUD counseling & behavioral health.• Collaborate with colleagues to ensure curriculum aligns with certification requirements & workforce needs.Key Achievements:• Prepared students for SUD Counselor certification & professional practice.• Increased student engagement & learning outcomes through innovative teaching methods.• Contributed to the AODS program’s reputation as a premier training resource for SUD counselors in San Diego County.This role enables me to share my expertise & inspire future counselors & behavioral health professionals, fostering meaningful contributions to the field.
