ABOUT RICHARD FRIEDMAN
I am an attorney practicing in municipal law, real estate law, public finance, litigation, eminent domain, historic preservation and appellate practice. I am a member of the managing group of my law firm. I am admitted to practice before all Illinois courts including the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, where I am a member of the trial bar, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. On the appellate level, I was lead counsel in more than one hundred appeals in state and federal courts.Prior to joining Neal & Leroy, LLC, I was a member of the City of Chicago Law Department’s Appeals and Review and Finance Divisions. I also served as counsel to the Chicago Landmark Commission. I wrote chapters on appellate practice and eminent domain for legal publications and lectured on eminent domain and historic preservation law. I teach historic preservation law at the University of Chicago Law School and in the graduate program in historic preservation at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.I am a member of the Chicago Bar Association and have served on the board of directors of Landmarks Illinois, a preservation advocacy organization.Specialties: My areas of concentration include municpal law, finance and development; eminent domain; historic preservation; business litigation; and zoning and real estate development.
