ABOUT RICHARD STUBBS

I am passionate about my role in improving health outcomes and social prosperity for communities across Yorkshire and the North by leading the work of Health Innovation Yorkshire and Humber (formally the AHSN).I am a member of the NHS Assembly, the Accelerated Access Collaborative and the Innovation Ecosystem Programme Advisory Group, supporting national policy initiatives that will improve the adoption of innovation for the benefit of patient care.In 2022, in partnership with the NHS Confederation, I created the Innovate Awards to recognise and reward health innovators across the NHS and industry.Internationally, I am a member of the International Health Federation’s Global Scientific Committee which curates the IHF’s annual World Hospital Congress, and an advisor to Healthcare UK, providing strategic input into the UK Department for Business and International Trade’s healthcare export activity.I am deeply committed to supporting my local region, particularly around levelling up our “health and wealth”. I co-created ‘YHealth4Growth’ – a platform for our region to highlight the intrinsic link between local population health outcomes and regional economic growth. I am a board member of the NP11, the business-led voice for Northern prosperity. I also sit on the South Yorkshire Mayoral Economic Advisory Council.I chair the advisory board for Sheffield Hallam University’s Advanced Wellness Research Centre and I am a visiting fellow at the university. I chair the NIHR Children and Young People MedTech Cooperative and I am a director of the Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park, an innovation campus delivering Olympic legacy through the themes of sport, community, environment and economy. I am currently the co-chair of the NHS Confederation’s BME Leadership Network steering group, where I support work to recognise and develop our diverse leaders within the heath system. In 2019 I created a programme that focused on the importance of diversity within innovation, leading to a series of pledges that have been adopted nationally by all health innovation networks. I am a Fellow of the Sciana Health Leaders’ Network, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and a Leadership Fellow of St George’s House, Windsor Castle. I am also very proud to be a board member of Maltby Learning Trust, a multi-academy trust of secondary and primary schools. In my spare time, I manage an under 14s football team.
