Cambridge, GB

Applied physicist within PA\'s defence and security team. My work is in identifying how to create new capabilities through the application of new physics and create genuine disruption. I have worked in sectors including manufacturing, life sciences and energy, and have a particular focus on the defence sector. Some of my work has included:Design of Rydberg and Cold Atom sensors for RF and inertial navigationNew to world applications of quantum computing in optimisationDesign of novel non-linear opticsBuilding novel Additive Manufacture systems (food, pharmaceuticals.)Applications of new mathematics in addressing a congested electromagnetic environmentThe use of VR as a platform for futures investigationThe majority of my time is in the technical leadership and delivery of consulting programmes to identify, specify and test novel physics-enabled capability. Over the course of my time at PA I\'ve been lucky enough to use the entirety of my undergraduate physics degree, which is kind of cool!

ABOUT RICHARD CLARIDGE

In our fast moving and complex environment, sometimes the current engineering approaches can\'t keep up. My role is all about identifying where emergent physics can enable new or significantly enhanced capability - particularly for the defence sector - and then combining physics with systems thinking to practically demonstrate the science works, and assess the value or capability that can be unlocked. It\'s a lot of fun
