London, GB

Independent practitioner focused on bringing structural clarity to services, programmes, and organisational change. I lead disciplined discovery, architect operating models, and support responsible commitment to transformation at service and enterprise level. My work spans pre-change discovery, change design and delivery support, and post-implementation embedding. I ensure organisations understand how their services truly function before selecting solutions or launching programmes — and that change is implemented with clear ownership, defined accountabilities, meaningful performance measures, and governance and assurance mechanisms capable of sustaining effectiveness over time.I operate across customer-facing services, enabling functions (e.g. ICT, HR, Finance, PMO), and direction-setting and expectation-setting functions (e.g. strategy, governance, performance, data), maintaining line of sight between operational reality and strategic intent. My focus is de-mystifying complexity and creating clarity that enables informed decisions about what genuinely needs to improve — and ensuring services and operating models work in practice, not just on paper.

ABOUT RICHARD MCCLENAGHAN

My career started as a humble office administrator. My onward journey has included admin and facilities management, practice management, operational management, information analysis, team-building, and psychology. I have spent the last 14+ years as a consultant / contractor delivering assured, sustainable, and measurable, cost-efficiency and performance improvements for hundreds of business functions within a significant number of UK civil service, public sector, and service sector organisations. My recent work has enabled me to gather a significant volume of research evidence, from which I have identified a set of foundational operating principles which, if followed, will address common issues and optimise the performance of all your business functions at a significantly reduce cost - including strategic planning and direction setting functions, operational delivery functions, enabling and supporting functions, and governance, monitoring and assurance functions. My 3 step process is pretty straightforward - i. A relatively simple, yet effective and value-adding audit will show you very quickly and clearly where the issues and opportunities reside (the antecedents of current inefficiencies and performance gaps) ii. I will demonstrate the impact of these issues and the value and relevance of the operating principles and the opportunities available I will work with you to develop a roadmap of simple changes to ways of working, which will facilitate assured, optimal performance, and operational excellence You’ll start to see and feel results almost immediately, like you have been shown a way out of the dark you hadn’t appreciated is surrounding you. I have a degree in psychology, diploma qualifications in business and management, and professional certifications in business analysis, business architecture, lean six sigma, agile, devops, and project and program management. Am I a…Business Analyst, Business Architect, Business Consultant, Service Designer, Change Manager, Programme, Project Manage, Product Owner, Delivery Manager, Non-Exec. director, Auditor, or a Business coach? I am qualified to call myself any one or all of these things but, ultimately, my expertise, my passion, and my place is helping to remove non value-adding costs (waste) from UK public services, helping to plug gaps and join up important dots, and helping to drive up standards, attitudes, and performance at all levels - and helping to assure high quality services that everyone can be proud of. It is possible. Get in touch to learn more.
