ABOUT RICHARD ATKINS KC

Richard is the Head of St Philips Chambers. He was the Chair of the Bar in 2019, Leader of the Midland Circuit 20••••17, and is a Bencher of Gray\'s Inn. He is a past head of the St Philips Chambers Regulatory Group and specialises in Regulatory and serious criminal matters. Described in the Legal 500 as \"The dedicated Richard Atkins QC is a powerful and persuasive advocate who attracts praise for his ability to control the Courtroom and proceedings.\" Placed in Band 1 of the Chambers and Partners Directory which states \"Has a substantial practice in serious crime and regulatory law.\" He has extensive experience in homicide cases; health and safety fatal accident cases (including corporate manslaughter) and inquests; trading standards & consumer law cases (he prosecuted Tesco in 2013 for their mis-selling of strawberries & prosecuted the leading Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations case \"R v X Ltd\" in the Court of Appeal. His reputation is as an approachable, engaging and entertaining advocate. He is well known for his ability to assimilate a large amount of facts and to put the matters across to the jury in an easily digestible manner. He defends and prosecutes. Richard regularly lectures to defence solicitors, the CPS and Police. He was a panel member of the 2014 IOSH National Safety Symposium fatal accidents debate. Richard sits as a Crown Court Recorder and is a part-time Judge of the Restricted Patients Panel of the First-tier Tribunal (Health Education and Social Care Chamber)(Mental Health).
