About Richard Young
I live in Lexington, Kentucky, and have worked on civic health and community development in Kentucky for over a decade. I started CivicLex, a nonprofit organization that builds civic knowledge and capacity for residents, stitches together new relationships, and builds more responsive civic institutions. Iām also a founding Steering Committee member of the Kentucky Rural-Urban Exchange. Since 2014, my work has been featured in Bloomberg, NextCity, New York Times, New America, the Wall Street Journal, and more. Iām an Ashoka Fellow, and have served as a fellow with the German Marshall Fund of the United States and the Bertelsmann Foundation. Iām proud to serve on the boards of LION Publishers and the Gaines Center for the Humanities. Iām also a musician! I have a degree in Double Bass performance from the College-Conservatory of Music in Cincinnati, and still play and teach in Central Kentucky.
