For almost a decade I’ve acted almost exclusively for universities, drafting and negotiating the contracts that turn estate masterplans into reality – JCT/NEC building contracts, professional appointments, development agreements, bonds and warranties – always with a deep understanding of REF/KEF deadlines, OfS requirements, research-grant profiles and net-zero targets.Key projects I’ve led include:• Queen Mary University of London – Malta Campus: full construction suite for the first standalone Russell Group medical school overseas (UK + Maltese law).• QMUL Mile End: new School of Business & Management + multi-phase refurbishment of the listed Queens’ Building.• The Open University: multiple phases of new academic/research facilities at Walton Hall and regional centres.• University of Leicester: Space Park Leicester laboratories and specialist research infrastructure.• Keele University: Innovation Centre 9 + contracts for the new Veterinary School joint-venture.• Manchester Metropolitan University: fast-track Students’ Union redevelopment and extension.• University of Cumbria: Citadels campus (Carlisle) and the new Barrow-in-Furness waterfront Learning Quarter.I speak university language fluently – I’ve lost count of the estate-strategy meetings I’ve sat in – and pride myself on contracts that are robust yet collaborative, practical on site and focused on successful delivery rather than disputes.When I’m not on campus you’ll find me chasing my young family (patient wife Hannah deserves a medal), attempting to play padel or watching tennis.
