ABOUT RICHARD TATE

I taught myself to code during the COVID-19 pandemic, converting what had always been a genuine hobby into a professional career. That decision was one of the best I have ever made, and the curiosity that drove it has only grown stronger since.Currently working as an Associate Application Developer at CityFibre, I build and maintain enterprise-grade systems across a modern stack including Laravel/PHP, React/TypeScript, Apache Kafka, AWS Lambda, and Camunda workflow orchestration. I work across the full delivery lifecycle, from integrating third-party APIs to designing BPMN workflows.Outside of work, the learning doesn\'t stop. It simply changes shape. I maintain a home lab running Proxmox, Kali Linux, and Docker environments for cybersecurity practice via HackTheBox. I build personal tools using local LLMs, experiment with AI pipelines and voice synthesis, develop games in Godot, and regularly explore new languages and frameworks out of genuine curiosity. I read documentation for the pleasure of it, take systems apart to understand how they work, and find real satisfaction in the moment something clicks.I believe the best developers are the ones who are building and learning when nobody is watching, and that has been true for me long before I was ever paid to write code.I learn best by doing: hands-on, iterative, and with a strong instinct for finding clarity in complexity. I bring that same approach to my work. Methodical, curious, and always looking to understand the system, not just the ticket.
