About Richard Santini

Curiosity, creativity, and imagination, along with a desire to develop therapies drive my efforts in the pharmaceutical industry working towards drug discovery and developing the tools for drug discovery. Working in oncology, CNS, diabetes, and cardiac therapeutics. Excel in Medicinal Chemistry and Analytical Chemistry groups running analytical chemistry testing laboratories. Collaborate and align studies with Biochemistry and DMPK departments to identify drug metabolites, improving compound bio availability, distribution, and providing key analogs for toxicity studies. Key strengths include-Analytical laboratory management -Analytical chemistry instrumentation (HPLC, LCMS, LC-MS/MS, GCMS, NMR, FTIR, GPC, UV.)-Method development and validation -Risk identification and mitigation -Quality control -GMP/GLP/ISO 13485/ISO 9001 and medical device testing -Compound purification and identification -Robotics and automation Extensive experience in method development for medicinal chemistry compound purification via HPLC, and LCMS Prep; and qualitative work via NMR, FTIR, FTIR Microscopy, GPC, DSC, LCMS, LC-MS/MS, chemical analyzer, GCMS, and elemental analysis. Broad instrumentation experience with multichannel liquid handling robots, automated chemical reactors, automated flash chromatography, robotic weighing instrumentation, and custom robotics engineering, modification, and implementation. Perform multi step, parallel, and high throughput organic synthesis in support of medicinal chemistry, biological screening, and DMPK assays. Technical writing, test method validation, standard operating procedures, and ensuring compliance to regulatory agencies.

We are dedicated to developing innovative treatments in oncology, hematology, immunology, and cardiovascular disease. Our team of passionate colleagues is committed to making a meaningful difference. As the leader of an analytical chemistry laboratory team, the team and I provide separation science support for the drug discovery/medicinal chemistry group at our San Diego, CA location. Responsibilities include:Leading a team of BMS and external scientists to deliver separation science support, including high throughput small molecule purification using preparative liquid and supercritical fluid chromatography, method development, and post-purification processing. Providing local onsite support for separation and physical property measurements and coordinating with team members at other sites to deliver capabilities not available locally. Ensuring operational support of a fleet of analytical LCMS instruments used by medicinal chemists for routine reaction checking and compound QC. Aligning with external service providers to ensure scheduling and training match requirements for smooth and efficient operation of the lab. In addition, I work with management to develop, implement, and update the strategic plan for separation science at the expanding site. This includes-Participating in the design and move into a newly constructed, purpose-built facility adjacent to the existing site in San Diego-Identifying and completing continuous improvement projects, including chromatography method development, infrastructure improvements, IT and process improvements, quality improvements, etc.Skills: Team Leader · Analytical Laboratory Manager · Supervisory Skills · Purification · Analytical Chemistry
