I’m a 33-year student of the fire service and a proud graduate of East Carolina University, committed to improving the fire service through leadership, instruction, and research-driven tactics.I currently serve as a Battalion Chief with the City of Durham Fire Department, bringing decades of operational experience to the frontlines. I’m also a third-generation volunteer firefighter with the Creedmoor Volunteer Fire Department, where I continue to serve my hometown community.Passionate about training and education, I instruct nationally and have presented at leading conferences including FDIC International, Firehouse World, SAFRE, SC Fire Rescue, the Virginia Fire Rescue Conference, and the Metro Atlanta Fire Conference. I’ve also contributed regularly to Fire Engineering Magazine, sharing insights and practical strategies with fellow firefighters.Formerly the Academy Coordinator for the Durham Tech Fire Academy, I remain engaged in shaping the future of the fire service. I serve on the educational advisory boards for FDIC International and the South Atlantic Fire Rescue Expo (SAFRE), helping ensure quality and relevance in firefighter education.Locally, I support fire and emergency services as a member of the Granville County Fire Commission and the Granville County Emergency Services Advisory Committee.I’m also honored to serve on the UL FSRI Technical Panels for Residential Home Size-Up, Search & Rescue, and Multi-Story Residential Tactics, where I contribute to advancing fireground operations through science-based research.
