ABOUT RICHARD POWLEY

I have a Master’s degree in Social Work and over a decade of safeguarding leadership experience across the statutory and charitable sectors, including leading and coordinating multi-agency adult safeguarding partnerships and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) practice in three London boroughs. I have led safeguarding practice at three major UK charities and also worked internationally, in partnership with Age Concern Ukraine and the Red Cross of Serbia, to support their work in developing sustainable and person-centred safeguarding frameworks. As a member of the Home Office’s advisory group for older people, the Department for Culture, Media & Sport’s domestic charity safeguarding summits, Her Majesty\'s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services reference group, the Ministerial Roundtable on Social Media, Disability & Online Harms and the Royal College of General Practitioners Safeguarding Steering Group I have supported the development of national policy and the implementation of best practice across sectors. I have also worked with The Institute of Fundraising, The Charity Commission, The Crown Prosecution Service and a number of commercial and regulatory organisations to improve their understanding of adult safeguarding and the Mental Capacity Act. I have particular expertise in developing policy and customer focused responses for consumers in vulnerable circumstances and have worked with national regulators, trade associations and commercial organisations to support and develop best practice. I was selected to take part in the Windsor Leadership Trust leadership programme and completed the Emerging Leaders programme.
