ABOUT RICHARD NIEMAN
Richard Nieman, MD is a pharmaceutical physician and global leader in Drug Development and Medical Affairs with leadership and operational experience in USA, China and UK/Europe. For five years, he was the Global Medical Officer & Head of Medical at Teva where he led the company’s medical function of 550 people and was a member of the Specialty Executive Team. His prior roles also include Head of R&D China and Global SVP Immunology Medical at BMS; Head of Japan, China and Asia Pacific Medical at Bayer; and Chief Development & Medical Officer (CDMO) at Norgine, UK. From 20••••21, Richard was at Bristol Myers Squibb (BMS) and joined as Vice President, Head of R&D China based in Shanghai. He was the senior R&D leader for BMS in China and led the drug development matrix functions, including clinical development, regulatory, clinical operations, pharmacovigilance, biometrics and quality. Richard and his team oversaw more than 20 clinical trials, delivered 2 new oncology approvals and established a new immunology development team. He was subsequently appointed SVP & Worldwide Head of Medical Immunology at BMS to provide global leadership to three product launches in dermatology, gastroenterology and neurology. Richard has developed or launched many medicines around the world in multiple therapeutic areas and delivered successful presentations to US FDA, EMA, China NMPA and WHO. He is highly experienced in Product Development, Medical Governance, Risk Management, Pharmacovigilance and Quality having co-chaired Teva’s Corporate Safety Board and been a member of key R&D governance committees at BMS, Teva and Bayer. Richard was a Visiting Professor at Fudan University School of Public Health, Shanghai, China, an invited panelist at the World Economic Forum, and is an elected a Fellow of the UK Royal College of Physicians. He is currently a Visiting Senior Lecturer at the Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, King\'s College London, UK.Richard grew up in the UK and is a respiratory physician by training. He studied medicine in London at Imperial College (St Mary’s) and was a research fellow at the Royal Brompton National Heart and Lung Institute, UK.
