ABOUT RICHARD MOCARSKI

Richard Mocarski has over two-decades progressive experience in academic administration, including serving as a Chief Research Officer for over a decade. He currently leads the Research and Innovation Partnership division at Northern Illinois University, serving on the President’s senior leadership team and acting as the liaison for one of the three Board of Trustees committees at NIU. He is a collaborative leader with demonstrable growth across roles and institutions, and has a track record of thought-leadership in research development, innovation, and external relations.He has authored or co-authored over fifty journal articles across the fields of rhetoric, communication, public health, education, speech language pathology, psychology, anthropology, and the methods of community-based participatory research & hl=en). He has served as a principal investigator, investigator, collaborator, or consultant on over $23M in awards from agencies including the National Institutes of Health (NIMH, NIMHD), US Department of Commerce, Small Business Administration, and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Along with Debra Hope and Nathan Woodruff, he co-founded Trans Collaborations (https://transcollaborations.unl.edu/) in 2015, a CBPR group dedicated to improving the health and wellbeing of transgender people in underserved areas. His research and leadership both embody his belief that the academy is a public good where its non-profit roots provide the foundation to create a knowledge commons that accelerates discovery for the greater good.
