ABOUT RICHARD MILLER
Success is dependent on individuals\' ability to capitalize on strengths, styles & personalities possessed more than trying to emulate what they lack. The goal of my professional efforts is guided by the following notion “most times the smartest person in the room has made the most mistakes and is aware of their weaknesses, but focuses on their strengths”. Ideally, I would like to see leaders embrace transformational leadership verse transactional leadership. Reflective thinking is the key to success. An unreflective thinker doesn\'t know how to analyze or assess their thinking. They spend most of their life not realizing they continually make assumptions, form concepts, draw from inferences & think within point of views. Individuals can’t effectively lead others unless they are able to effectively lead themselves. It\'s difficult to lead the self if one doesn\'t know & understand the self. Self awareness, is knowing one\'s motivations, emotions & personality. It\'s what one enjoys & dislikes, what comes easy & what poses challenges. Is therefore a key precursor in developing effective leadership ability? For many, knowledge of the self is often taken for granted. We wake up with ourselves, eat, work & sleep with ourselves. How could we possibly not know who we are? It\'s critical for individuals to know & understand their own personalities & styles, reflect on the potential strengths & shortcomings associated with their dispositions, formulate an approach to capitalize on the strengths while tempering their weaknesses, & are able to communicate effectively. In this manner, charisma becomes less of a singularly defined personality trait than a strategic way for leaders to identify how they are best able to connect with and empower subordinates, gain trust, & have their vision internalized & supported. Only then can a leader become conscious and drive high performance, quality, & excellence through inspiration & empowerment.
