He is known for being a caring people leader and a pragmatic, impact-oriented problem solver who can integrate \'traditional\' performance improvement approaches with cutting-edge digital technologies to deliver tangible bottom-line impact.Prior to becoming a Partner at McKinsey, Richard was part of the Firm\'sLondon and Sydney offices where he focused on Organizational Transformation and Lean Manufacturing-based performance improvement programs to unlock latent capacity, reduce costs and improve customer service across multiple industry sectors including metals & mining, financial services, retail and telecommunications.As a Partner, Richard relocated to North America and served industrial companies on a range of strategic, go-to-market and operational topics. This led to him deepening his focus on manufacturing and specifically on the rapidly emerging topic of Digital Manufacturing / Industry 4.0 / Factories of the Future. He quickly became a pre-eminent global expert on the subject and led the development of McKinsey’s digital manufacturing service line. This included forming a ground-breaking collaboration with the World Economic Forum, establishing strategic partnerships with technology providers, authoring numerous publications and being invited to make multiple keynote speeches worldwide.Over the last 5 years, Richard has integrated his Operations and Digital experience to focus on architecting and leading large-scale, multi-year, operational transformations for industrial clients, delivering double-digit performance improvement and bottom-line impact.Richard holds an MBA from London Business School and a PhD and Bachelor\'s degree in Chemistry from Oxford University
