buildingSMART is a worldwide industry community focused on driving the digital transformation of the built asset environment to increase productivity, improve efficiencies, reduce environmental impact and reduce the whole life costs including the design, construction and facilities management industries through the creation and adoption of open international standards & solutions for information sharing and building information modelling (BIM). am accountable for all the operational aspects of this global organisation that has representation in 30 regions of the world and is supported by many significant companies from across the building and infrastructure economy.Reporting to the Chief Executive, I created with them the business model for the International organisation early in its inception. I am part of the Management Executive Team and lead the Programme Management, finance, procurement, IT support, HR, legal functions.The Programmes operate with executive leadership committees from across the international community and each is responsible for a specialist domain. They deliver many projects developing open digital solutions and standards, primarily based on Industry Foundation Class (IFC) for use in building and infrastructure developments. This is a demand led community and the outcomes are used by vendors to provide interoperable software to the user community. bSI primary standards are managed to become ISO standards.Successes include; the delivery of new bSI Final Standards, launch of Rail, Road, Airport and Maritime programmes, extension of IFC to include infrastructure entities, 6x company turnover increase, 50x community following increase, strategic roadmaps for technology improvement and programme delivery and establishment of high performing industry leadership teams for delivering digital transformation.
