ABOUT RICHARD KELLEY

Engineering leader in product development with deep design experience, a value of cross-functional collaboration, and a track record of quickly bringing products to market. As a technical lead and a functional manager, I have led design teams through all phases of the product development process from product definition, technology feasibility investigations, product architecture, subsystem development and testing, and manufacturing ramp and stabilization. I guide my teams to use targeted prototypes and analysis to quickly iterate designs. I create an environment of trust and collaboration where engineers can brainstorm with each other to find the best ideas. I challenge my teams to think in terms of the complete system, and to work collaboratively with product marketing and other engineering disciplines so that designs are functional systems that meet customer’s needs. I drive early design collaboration with Ops so designs are both functional and manufacturable. I employ management by objective and a profound respect for the individual.I use my deep experience as a design engineer to guide my teams to create THEIR best solutions. I have designed mechanisms including flow cell loading mechanisms, electromechanical assemblies with closed-loop DC servo and stepper motors, injection molded plastic parts, high and low volume sheet metal, machined parts, custom springs, plastic gears with customized profiles to optimize mesh characteristics, and paper transports. I have a track record of innovative solutions and have over 20 US patents.I bring a customer focused attitude to my work and a value of respect for my colleagues.
