ABOUT RICHARD JARVIS
Involuntarily-retired 16 year Police Officer serving the city of Springfield, MA. Injured during a gas explosion that occurred on 11/23/12. Diagnosed with Complex PTSD one year subsequent. Secondary career in Clinical Mental Health, counseling across the lifespan. Voluntarily performing peer and referral services for first responders in hopes of lessening the stigma associated with Mental health among first responders. Recently created a Crisis and Peer Network for all first responders, front-line personnel and veterans. Acting as a safety net, for those in acute stress or experiencing intense suicidal ideations. No strings attached, no adherence to departmental polices and purely confidential and anonymous. Also collaborate closely with many other peer support network and veteran service programs. Often venture to organizations that are first responder and veteran specific, in order to vet specialized resource and create a database for referrals. Goal is to create a unified front towards eliminating suicidality and counteract progression of acute stress as quickly as possible by walking with those in crisis until they are placed by the aforementioned vetted resources.
