ABOUT RICHARD HURLEY
Dr. Richard Hurley is an Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery, specialising in hip and knee replacement, at the Dartmouth General Hospital in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Dr. Hurley is a member of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia and a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Dr. Hurley completed his specialist training in Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Toronto, during which time he served as chief resident for the division. Dr. Hurley further sub-specialised in hip and knee replacement and trauma and was fortunate to participate in two clinical fellowships at the Mount Sinai Hospital and Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre; both world-renowned academic units at the University of Toronto. He was trained by several eminent surgeons including Professors Allan Gross and Hans Kreder.Dr. Hurley is dedicated to quality improvement in healthcare. Dr. Hurley is the National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP) Surgeon Champion for the NSH Central Zone. NSQIP is a data tool that helps to improve surgical outcomes for the healthcare system. Dr. Hurley is interested in evaluating healthcare technology and is piloting the use of predictive analytics and AI to improve patient flow and hospital capacity. Dr. Hurley is a founder of Conceptualiz, a medical 3D printing software company that allows healthcare professionals to 3D plan surgeries and print anatomical models from real patient data in-hospital using desktop printers. He is also founder and curator of the 3D Orthopaedic Special Interest Group (3DOS) and was a former computer assisted surgery product manager for DePuy Canada (J & JMP).
