About Richard Beaser
I have recently retired from my role as the Medical Director of Professional Education at the Joslin Diabetes Center, a practicing physician (Clinical Diabetes Specialist) at the Joslin Clinic, and an Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. My primary responsibilities in these capacities was to oversee development and CME certification of domestic continuing medical education activities focused on diabetes and related conditions, for practicing physicians in the United States. I also provided care of adults with diabetes through the Joslin Diabetes Center and its satellite in Needham Massachusetts. I my current retired role, I am opened to occasional consulting in the area of professional education for diabetes and related conditions. I am mostly interested in providing consultative advisory services to institutions, organizations, or companies who are seeking to develop themselves, or support the development of, professional education targeting medical professionals who provide care for people with diabetes. My wealth of past hands-on experience in this area allows me to now step back to a consultative, advisory role for any groups seeing input on how to design, develop, or initiate continuing medical professional education, or seek to address an educational gap using these types of educational interventions. I was on the staff of the Joslin Diabetes Center since 1982, with past leadership positions in Adult Diabetes care delivery and education. I also have clinical research experience, including the landmark Diabetes Control and Complications Trial. I have authored 4 books: Joslin Diabetes Manual; Outsmarting Diabetes; The Joslin Guide to Diabetes; and Joslin’s Diabetes Deskbook: A Guide for Primary Care Providers. I have lectured throughout the US and abroad on clinical diabetes and its comorbidities, and have authored numerous publications in peer review journals, review articles, and book chapters.I founded the Professional Education Department at Joslin in 1990. For many years, I had responsibility for departmental academic activities, including educational content & domestic activities targeting physicians and other medical professionals. I also have had experience providing consultative services to education providers external to Joslin such as organizationa & pharmaceutical companies relating to diabetes treatment and, particularly, physician education to optimize diabetes care and outcomes.
