About Richard Austin
Richard L. Austin has over 30 years experience designing and developing optical radiation measurement instruments and systems as well as over 20 years of business management, development and strategic planning. The developed measurement systems cover a broad range of applications including; Head Up Display and direct view display characterization for the F-16, F-18 and C-17 and F-117 military aircraft, quality assurance and process control for antireflection and other thin film coatings, LED, flash lamp and lamp luminous intensity and luminous flux, and characterization of retroreflective materials for both intensity and color. The instrumentation used in these systems include standard light sources, both tungsten lamp and LED based traceable to NIST, computer controlled scanning grating and diode array spectroradiometers and spot telespectroradiometer, world class photometers, display and lens modulation transfer function, patented tristimulus CRT spot profile and convergence measurement method, and portable and laboratory retroreflectance characterization instruments. Richard is the current President and Chief Technology Officer of Gamma Scientific, where he has held the position of optical physicist for over 30 years. He has a degree in physics from San Diego State University. He is former member on the board of directors of the Council of Optical Radiation Measurements and member of the Optical Society of America, SPIE, Society for Information Display, ASTM, Commission Internationale de l’Eclairage (CIE) Division 2 and expert representative on IEC TC110 working on display metrology standards. He currently serves on the Executive Committee of the International Committee for Display Metrology (ICDM) and the VR/AR/HUDS/NEAR-EYE-DISPLAY sub committee Chair working on content for the 1.3 revision of the Information Display Measurement Standard, IDMS.Specialties: Strategic Planning and business analysis,Optical Physics applications
