ABOUT RICHARD ANTWI

Richard Antwi has over 5 years cumulative work experience in GIS, transportation, and energy industries. He is currently in his PhD program in Civil Engineering with a focus in Transportation at FAMU-FSU College of Engineering and a researcher at Resilient Infrastructure and Disaster Response (RIDER) center.Throughout his career, he has gathered vast experience and skills in data science and analytics, Machine Learning (ML), geospatial information technology, GeoAI, remote sensing, and image processing. Presently, he is undertaking academic research in using Artificial Intelligence (AI) and computer vision (CV) techniques to identify and extract road geometry data from aerial imagery, which is a major component in Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) for smarter and safer mobility. Alongside, he conducts research on disaster resilience and roadway accessibility where he evaluates disaster-related debris by creating automated GIS and CV-based models to locate high debris areas faster from satellite images, particularly in rural communities. Richard has undertaken several research projects using ML and GIS models to solve real life issues in transportation system resilience and management, energy distribution, health and community safety, crime and security. Richard has been the lead graduate research assistant for two externally funded research projects by the FDOT from conception to completion. He has also worked on multiple projects funded by NSF and USDOT.Aside from these, he has undertaken several roles in GIS software tutoring and mentoring, Geomatics course instruction, and GIS project consulting and advising. Richard currently has published several research papers in various high impact journals in GIS, AI, ITS, transportation safety, accessibility, and resilience subject areas.
