ABOUT RICHARD ABBEY

Richard Abbey leads the UK & I Forensic & Integrity Services Practice at EY. He is a Chartered Accountant with over 30 years’ experience of helping clients manage reputationally or financially damaging events. His experience of helping clients navigate crises means he is also often asked to help design, improve and implement risk management and compliance programs around key risks such as Fraud and non-compliance with Laws and Regulations.Richard is also an accomplished business builder having founded and led the global financial investigations practice at an international boutique risk management firm, co-founded his own boutique consultancy and co-led the global forensic accounting practice at a US boutique cyber and investigations firm prior to returning to EY in 2015. In 2023 he was recognised as a global thought leader in investigations and forensic accounting.Throughout his career Richard has worked across all industries with a particular focus on complex international investigations and disputes, international asset tracing investigations and strategic intelligence projects. He has a wealth of international experience having operated in over 20 jurisdictions, leading multiple high-profile investigations, including a number of international banking collapses and several FCPA investigations. He has given expert evidence in courts in the UK, Ireland and Singapore. He is recognised as a leading expert in the Who\'s Who Legal guide to investigators and asset recovery experts. Richard has also worked with many UHNW private clients helping to investigate, manage and remediated potential reputational issues. This work has led to him being recognised in the Spears Wealth index of top reputation managers in each of the last 6 years.He has written numerous articles for general and specialist media, been quoted as an expert in several publications and has appeared as an expert commentator on both television and radio.
