About Richa Khanna
I am a mental health professional with 10 years of experience in the field of applied psychology. I hold a doctorate degree in counselling psychology from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, Missouri and a social justice post-doctoral fellowship from the University of Delaware’s Center for Counseling and Student Development. In addition to my role as a clinician, I also teach, supervise and mentor individuals who are clinical trainees or early career clinicians (0-5 years post graduating). I am an international person! I have lived and worked in diverse cultural spaces in India and the US. And I am continuing to reach individuals through online modalities in Europe and Australia. My work reflects a blend of sensitivity to people holding diverse identities (such as race and ethnicity, gender identity, social class, religion, caste, ability status, sexual orientation, and age, among others) and their individual narratives. I understand that mental health is culture bound and multi-pronged phenomenon and I appreciate the varied mediums through which successful healing can happen – physiological, spiritual or psychological. Hence, I aim to tap into the valuable role and contributions of professionals from multiple disciplines– physicians (allopathic, Ayurvedic and Homeopathic), psychiatrists, social workers, humanitarian agents, legal systems, yoga practitioners, spiritual healers and other specialists. Some of these professionals form a part of my referral network and simultaneous line of care and consultation. Both as a psychologist and clinical supervisor, the foundation of my work lies predominantly in relational; and feminist/multicultural approaches. This is because I believe that my relationship with another individual is central and fundamental to my capacity to influence meaningful change within them. I ensure a space where individuals and groups feel respected, heard and understood. My theoretical leanings include cognitive and mindfulness approaches such as acceptance and commitment therapy; developmental and attachment theory; techniques of which I employ within a relational and multicultural framework.
