About Richard D. Roberts

During his career, Dr. Roberts has conducted research to enhance the quality of prominent existing assessments (e.g, Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery [ASVAB]) and pioneered new assessments involving use of big data, the gamification of education, and multimedia items to measure individual differences in critically important constructs not yet measured well, including cross-cultural competence, cognitive biases (i.e, thinking fast, thinking slow), economic misconceptions, and emotional intelligence. He has also been at the forefront of developing novel measures of established constructs, specifically behavioral, social, and emotional skills (most recently, SELF+E and SELF+EZ). Dr. Roberts\' main area of specialization is the measurement of human attributes, with a special emphasis on developing and researching innovative methods encompassing both the full range of the cognitive and noncognitive domains, as well as constructs that that straddle these domains (e.g, creativity). Dr. Roberts has published over a dozen books with established publishing houses (e.g, OUP, MIT press, Taylor and Francis), and more than 200 peer-review articles / book chapters on these topics in diverse sub-disciplines (including, education, psychology, business, cybersecurity, medicine, health and economic policy, and human and environmental engineering). In addition to publication, he has presented his work in over 400 presentations across the globe. Dr. Roberts has received grants and contracts as Principal Investigator from a diverse group of funders, including the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, Army Research Institute, Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Activity, Australian Research Council, Agencia de Calidad de la Educación, Chile, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and Employment and Skills Development, Canada. Among Dr. Roberts’ professional honors are two ETS Presidential Awards, two PROSE book awards, a University of Sydney medal, a National Research Council Fellowship, and various early (and then later) career awards (including recognition in Who\'s Who in America).
