The Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) unveiled its newest franchise in Calgary on October 19, 2022, the Calgary Surge. The CEBL features 10 teams in six provinces, making it the largest pro sports league in Canada. The Surge play out of WinSport Event Centre. Over three seasons as owner/operator, the Surge have made three straight CEBL Championship Weekend appearances, won two Western Conference Championships, were named Franchise of the Year in 2025, hold the CEBL’s single-game attendance record, and sent over 6500 deserving kids and families to our games for free.

Jason Ribeiro is a father, community advocate, and Co-Chairman of the Calgary Surge and Saskatoon Mamba Professional Basketball Clubs and REAL Studios.Jason holds degrees from McMaster University, York University, Brock University, and earned his Ph.D. from the University of Calgary, where he was a SSHRC Joseph-Armand Bombardier Scholar.Jason has held progressively senior roles in global consulting and economic development, and is regularly relied upon for trusted thought leadership and public affairs commentary in local and national media. A passionate corporate director and community volunteer, Jason serves on the boards of the Canadian Elite Basketball League, Alberta Motor Association, and Sport Calgary (Vice-Chair).Since 2023 Jason has received the King Charles Coronation and Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee Medals, Business in Calgary Leaders Award, Outstanding Young Alumni & Alumni Brilliance Awards from Brock University, Culbert Family Award for Philanthropy from the United Way of Calgary and Area, Outstanding Achievement in Sports Award from the South Asian Inspiration Awards, and was named to Avenue Magazine\'s Top 40 Under 40 List, the Calgary Herald\'s Compelling Calgarians List, and The Peak\'s Emerging Leaders List. However, Jason\'s greatest achievement is the family life he\'s built with his wife, Dr. Natalie Scime and their sons Matteo and Lorenzo.His latest entrepreneurial ventures in professional sports and content production extend his passions for sport, arts and culture. Jason believes these fields are powerful tools for community development and can help build a Canada that leaves no one behind.
