About Rhys Jones

Rhys Jones leads the development of Medicaid advocacy and policy supporting America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP) and its member organizations. He plays a leading role in building AHIP’s Medicaid policy agenda; represents AHIP in public events on Medicaid managed care issues; builds relationships with key Medicaid policymakers in government and the research community; works closely with AHIP\'s Medicaid health plan members and other Medicaid-focused groups in support of AHIP’s advocacy efforts. Prior to assuming his current role, he was Senior Director, Government Relations Business Development at Anthem Inc. and Vice President, Medicare Policy and Market Development in Anthem/Amerigroup\'s Specialty Products Group, a management group operating the company\'s Medicare Advantage (MA) and dual eligible special needs plans (SNPs) in nine states. Before joining Amerigroup, he was a consultant advising health plans on Medicare program issues, regulatory compliance, HIPAA privacy issues and health plan operations, including five years in the Healthcare Consulting Practice of PricewaterhouseCoopers. Rhys has held positions in health plan operations and regulatory affairs with a number of regional and national health plans, including Health Net and Foundation Health Systems. Rhys is a frequent speaker on Medicare and dual eligible issues, dual eligible MMP demonstrations and special needs plans. He holds a Master in Public Health degree in Health Policy and Administration from the University of California, Berkeley. He is the author of \"HMO 101: Introduction to HMOs\" and \"The Ultimate HMO Handbook\". He is also fluent in Brazilian Portuguese and a fairly accomplished musician.
