ABOUT RHEA DESAI

With my time at McMaster I have had the opportunity to explore and develop my interests in radiation science, environmental protection and community engagement. Throughout my work, I have developed a deep appreciation for the importance of understanding the people and environments we engage with, particularly in relation to Indigenous communities. I believe that Indigenous knowledge and perspectives are crucial for developing meaningful and sustainable projects that address complex challenges and promote environmental stewardship.During my time at McMaster, I enhanced my written and verbal communication skills through presenting and organizing international conference presentations and workshops. I also had the privilege of fostering my leadership and teaching abilities as a post doctotral fellow in the McCall MacBain Post Doctoral Fellows Teaching and Leadership Program. This opportunity has supported my passion for education and outreach, particularly within the nuclear industry, where I believe clear communication and public engagement are crucial for fostering understanding and building trust. I am deeply committed to demystifying nuclear science and its applications by promoting accurate, accessible information that can empower individuals and communities. By educating others and encouraging dialogue, I aim to inspire curiosity, break down misconceptions, and contribute to informed decision-making around nuclear technology and its role in sustainable energy solutions.These experiences, combined with my growing passion for community engagement, have strengthened my commitment to teamwork and collaboration. I recognize the importance of working within diverse teams to ensure that all voices are heard and valued. I am eager to bring these skills, insights, and values into the workplace, confident that they will contribute to both personal and organizational success.
