About Ryan G.

As a software engineer, I have led and contributed to strategic technology initiatives that enhanced performance, efficiency, and security. My core competencies include backend development, migration, QA automation, and FastAPI and AWS services. Most recently, I worked as a software engineer at Blueboard Inc, where I setup and managed a Nominatim geolocation server on AWS, converted an older application from WSGI to FastAPI, and upgraded the code base from Python 2.7 to Python 3.11. I also developed FastAPI microservices, implemented Githooks and GitHub Actions, and leveraged SQLAlchemy and Pydantic to optimize multiple relational MariaDB databases.Previously, I was a SDET at Fair.com, where I mentored new engineers and managed the development of comprehensive QA automation for Fair\'s frontend website and two internal tooling sites. I also executed a successful migration of tests from Ruby to Python. Additionally, I worked as a Java Software Engineer at StartEngine, where I developed robust backend infrastructure using Java Spring Boot, and conducted seamless migration from Ruby on Rails.I hold a Bachelor of Science degree from California State University - Monterey Bay, where I developed a strong foundation in computer science and software engineering. I am passionate about learning new technologies and solving complex problems. I am looking for a new opportunity where I can apply my skills and expertise to innovative projects that create meaningful solutions.

Independently transitioned the company from a costly API service to an in-house alternative with comparable performance; conceived and presented the solution to the CTO, designed the architecture, set up EC2 instances, and developed a FastAPI application to manage all requests to a PostgreSQL database- Developed a WebSocket-enabled FastAPI service to process ~200 MB of nightly JSON data in multiple requests. Leveraging Pydantic and SQLAlchemy with PostgreSQL, the service checks for existing records, conditionally updates them, or creates new entries based on field changes. Implemented multi-layer caching for optimal time complexity and memory efficiency, ensuring that incoming data entries aren’t redundantly processed.
