Training in symbolic logic is the best way to overcome the ambiguities inherent in all human languages. In most communication, ambiguity is not a problem and can even play a useful role. It can make communication easier by leveraging common cultural understanding. Imagine how cumbersome and time consuming it would be to eliminate every ambiguity in a conversation with friends or coworkers. Not fun! But sometimes ambiguities and unspoken implications lead to costly and dangerous mistakes. The way we communicate closely follows the way we think, and when accuracy is necessary, formal logic is our most powerful tool for reasoning and communication. Logic is not a replacement for natural language, it is a tool to make communication more accurate when accuracy is called for. Think about business requirements for a complex system, or a legal contract, or a conversation between people with completely different cultural backgrounds. These are only a few scenarios where logic training can save the day. The CLBC is part of the Institute for Logic and the Public Interest. We offer training in logic to organizations of every kind. We also work with business schools to incorporate symbolic logic into business education at every level and across all disciplines.
