ABOUT EMANUEL S. CHRIS

Rev. Dr. Emanuel S. Chris (Chrysanthakopoulos), M. D, M. Div, is a Priest of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America and a practicing Psychiatrist. He is a graduate of Columbia College 1980 with a BA in History, The Albany Medical College 1986 with an MD, and the Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology 2005 with an M. Div. with High Distinction. Dr. Chris completed Residency Training in Adult Psychiatry at Tufts New England Medical Center Hospital and the Boston VA Medical Center in Boston, MA in 1990. Dr. Chris has been a clinician and administrator in both private and public sector Mental Health settings as Associate Medical Director at Pembroke Hospital in Pembroke, MA, Chief of Psychiatry at Worcester State Hospital in Worcester, MA, and Medical Director of Bournewood Hospital and Health Systems in Brookline, MA. Dr. Chris has also taught as an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Massachusetts School of Medicine and at the Boston University School of Medicine, and as an Instructor in Pastoral Counseling and Hospital Ministry at the Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology. Fr. Emanuel was ordained to the Holy Diaconate by Metropolitan Methodios of Boston in September of 2004 and then served as a Deacon at the St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Worcester, MA. Metropolitan Methodios ordained Fr. Emanuel to the Holy Priesthood in July of 2005. He served as the second Priest at the Church of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Parish of Greater Providence in Cranston, RI from August 2005 through September 2018; in retirment from parish assignment, he is permanently attached to the St. Gergory the Theologian Greek Orthodox Parish in Mansfield, MA where he continues to Liturgically serve gratis and has also been a long time parishioner and steward. Dr. Chris has been in full time Private Practice since 2003 in Adult Psychiatry, Psychopharmacology, and Addiction Medicine at Boston Health Care, Inc, a multidisciplinary Private Mental Health Practice in Walpole, MA, where he has been the Medical Director since June 2015, and is currently in semi reitrement; Dr Chris specializes in the Psychopharmacologic Treatment of Dual Diagnosis Adult Patients with co-existing Psychiatric Disorders and Chemical Dependencies, along with Mood and Anxiety Disorders, OCD, PTSD, ADHD, and the treatment of Opioid Dependence with Suboxone/Buprenorphine.
