ABOUT RENATO GOLIN

I am a programmer since the 80’s, a software engineer since the 90\'s and a researcher since the 10\'s.I have always been an open source advocate, and have helped various companies to engage and become a part of the communities of the software they use. Open source is not free lunch. It is the simplest and cheapest way to create long lasting solutions, allow collaboration between industry competitors and academia, and the fastest way to transfer technology from research into product, while still allowing long term research and development over the same project. My core research work revolves around compilers (mainly LLVM/MLIR), ML workloads and kernels (e.g: Triton), usage of ML for programmer productivity (compilers, annotations, profilers, predictors), workload distribution (multi-GPU, distributed arrays, mesh, universal algorithms), HPC productivity (Python, reusing ML compilers, data structures), and more.Open Source Responsibilities:* LLVM Maintainer (since 2014)/ MLIR Area Team (since 2025)* OpenHPC Testing Coordinator (2017~2019)* HPCC‘s Core Developer (2011~2012)Specialities:* Technical Leadership* Mission-critical, high-availability and high-performance development* Toolchains: Compilers, debuggers, libraries, benchmarks* Distributed and scientific computing* Machine learning, heterogeneous computingConference Roles:EuroLLVM (Europe - since 2011)* Founder* Co-organiser* PC-chair / memberFOSDEM - LLVM DevRoom (Brussels - since 2014)* Co-founder* Co-organiser* PC-chairArm HPC Workshop (Japan, US, China - 2017 ~ 2019)* Co-founder* Co-organiser* PC-chairUS LLVM Developers\' Meeting (Bay Area - 2016, 2021)* PC-memberCGO - LLVM Performance Workshop (Europe / US - 2018, 2019)* PC-memberCGO - C4ML (2025)* PC-memberLinux Plumbers - LLVM Room (Europe / US - 2014, 2015)* Co-organiser* PC-memberHiPEAC - IMPACT workshop (Europe - 2023)* PC-memberArthur C. Clarke Laws of Life:* When a scientist states that something is possible, they are almost certainly right. When they state that something is impossible, they are very probably wrong.* The only way of discovering the limits of the possible is to venture a little way past them into the impossible.* Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from Magic.
