Renee Townsend is the Managing Partner of the Detroit office for Burger, Meyer & D’Angelo, a national law firm with its main office located in California. Ms. Townsend represents corporations, insurers, and individuals in a broad spectrum of liability defense matters, including general liability claims, third party motor vehicle litigation, and premises liability claims. Recently, Ms. Townsend has expanded her practice into the gig economy sphere, with a growing list of tech app clients for which she provides services as both local trial counsel and national corporate counsel.Ms. Townsend supports her clients through pre-litigation claims management and supervision, and handles litigated matters from the discovery phase through trial. Ms. Townsend has successfully defended her clients in jury and bench trials in several Circuit and District Courts in the Metro-Detroit area. She has also developed legal compliance programs for business and property owners in all 50 states and internationally.Ms. Townsend has published several articles which have been featured in regional and national publications directed to insurers, corporations, and defense counsel. She has also conducted advisory presentations on evolving areas of law for clients and industry leaders.Ms. Townsend was admitted to practice law in the State of Michigan and the United States District Court, Eastern District of Michigan, in 2010. She was named to the Michigan Rising Stars List by Michigan SuperLawyers from 2013 through 2022. She has also been named to the list of the Top Women Attorneys in Michigan by Hour Detroit since 2014, and received the distinct honor of being named to the Michigan Lawyers Weekly list of Up & Coming Lawyers in 2017. Ms. Townsend has been named to Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch since 2019. Additionally, Ms. Townsend has received an AV Preeminent® Peer Review Rating by Martindale-Hubbell. Ms. Townsend earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Eastern Michigan University in 2007, with a concentration in Legal Studies. She received her Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law in 2010.
