It feels like the disparate parts of my career have been pointing to what I do now: helping unions and nonprofits achieve a more just and progressive society. Mostly my work focuses on helping them navigate a thicket of campaign-finance, lobbying, and nonprofit-tax laws, but I also help them negotiate contracts, ensure employees are treated fairly, and handle all the obstacles that union and nonprofit leaders face. I love untangling knotty compliance matters and diving into the details to negotiate complicated contracts – exactly the kind of thing most union and nonprofit leaders loathe. I feel lucky that by doing what I’m good at, I’m able to free up others to focus on the parts of their job that they find rewarding and that help make the world a better place.
