ABOUT REMO CAPONI

Remo Caponi, born in Cortona (Italy) in 1960, is full professor of Civil Procedure at the School of Law of the University of Florence since 2001, after obtaining a Law Degree at the University of Florence in 1984, a PhD at the University of Bologna in 1989, and a Großes Deutsches Sprachdiplom at the Goethe Institut in 1992. He was a Fernand Braudel Fellow at the EUI, Fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, visiting professor at the University of Heidelberg (2014-ongoing). He was a Senior Hauser Global Research Fellow at the New York University in 20••••15. He was wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter at the Faculty of Law of the University of Bielefeld in 19••••91, while teaching Introduction to the Italian Law. He has taught Civil Procedure at the Faculty of Law of the University of Siena in and Transnational Contracts and Litigation at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Siena in 19••••09. He is founding member of the European Law Institute, he was a member of both its Council (20••••19) and its Executive Committee (20••••17). He is member of the International Scientific Advisory Board (Fachbeirat) of the Max Planck Institute Luxembourg for International, European and Regulatory Procedural Law, of the Board of the Trustees of the Academy of European Law, of the Presidium of the International Association of Procedural Law, and of the Board of the Directors of the Italian Association of Procedural Law. He has served as reporter for the European Commission and the European Parliament in studying and evaluating aspects of the European law of civil procedure and insolvency. He is member of the Steering Committee supervising the ELI UNIDROIT joint project on European Rules of Civil Procedure. He has authored 4 books and about 200 papers in Italian, English and German. A number of his works has been translated in Spanish, Portuguese and Hungarian. He speaks Italian (mother tongue), German, and English. He also reads French, Spanish, and Portuguese.
