   Recent Projects:Milestone inspections (Fall 2024): Following the Surfside condo collapse in 2021, the State of Florida requires milestone inspections to be performed on condos within a certain proximity to the ocean. This project enabled Forerunner to be the tool of choice for performing these inspections. It consisted of two parts: creating a core, smart form that could be extended for each community’s unique use case and workflow, and geospattially displaying table data. Custom PIP (Spring 2024): A primary way data is displayed to internal users and the general public is through the Property Information Panel (PIP). Originally, the type of data that could be displayed in a PIP was static between properties and accounts. As customer needs grew, we needed to allow total customization of PIP data. This project allowed for custom data to be added into custom sections, displayed in a user-defined order. Doing so allowed Forerunner to grow from a floodplain management-focused tool to supporting earthquake and fire risk, as well as general information displayed to the public.Document extraction pipeline (Fall 2023): Fundamental to Forerunner’s product offering is automated error checking on Elevation Certificates (ECs). Surveyors must turn in an EC to the community to get approval on new permits, and the community then gives them to FEMA to ensure compliance. Due to the importance of remaining compliant with FEMA, EC accuracy is highly important to our customers. FEMA updates EC every few years, so before the most recent edition of the form was released, I re-wrote the document extraction pipeline to be more resilient to form changes. Using a combination of Node and AWS Textract, any document (EC or otherwise) can be passed into the pipeline, and given a corresponding JSON config, data is extracted and normalized with a high degree of accuracy.
