WORK HISTORY
Law Clerk @Sullivan & Ward, P.C
West Des Moines, IA, US
As a clerk for a full-service firm, I have been exposed to most facets of the law, and have assisted in all stages of litigation, even appellate procedure. I performed clerking duties such as extensive legal research and memo-writing, as well as paralegal duties such as attorney scheduling, court filing, and motion drafting. I was able to sit at the counsel table for a 4-day jury trial where I assisted in jury selection, exhibit presentations, mid-trial research, trial strategy, and jury instructions. This experience not only has sharpened my research and writing skills, but also provides daily real-world experience to apply my skillset with actual results.

ABOUT REID SWARTZENTRUBER
I am a Massachusetts native, Virginia ex-student and paralegal, and now Iowa law student. Over the course of pursuing a legal career, I have had the opportunity to take the best qualities of each state\'s legal world. In Massachusetts, I was able to learn the art of tenacity and quick-research for representing the widespread clientele of General Practice Law. Behind the accents and attitudes, every client has a unique problem that requires a unique solution, fast. Slow down and they will take their case elsewhere. In Virginia, I learned how personal the legal career actually is. To represent a client is to step into their situation and walk with them through it. This requires administering expert counsel and EQ skills to stand with them, and fierce negotiation skills to stand for them. In Iowa, I have learned that seemingly-simple skills such as research and writing are crucial to good lawyering. Not only is the legal world competitive, but it requires you to do your homework (literally). Preparedness and professionalism are two cornerstones that your case stands on; don\'t forget the legal pad!
