ABOUT REHAN QAYYUM
Dr. Qayyum is the Chairman of the Department of Medicine, Harry H. Mansbach Chair in Internal Medicine, and Professor of Medicine at the Eastern Virginia Medical School, Norfolk, Virginia. He leads a team of exceptionally talented faculty and highly skilled clinicians to provide the best clinical care to patients and to advance the field of medicine through teaching the next generation of physicians (residents and medical students) and through clinical research. Dr. Qayyum has extensive leadership and mentorship experience. Before joining EVMS, he was the founding Chief of the Hospital Medicine Division at the Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) School of Medicine in Richmond, Virginia. He has mentored countless junior faculty, residents, and medical students throughout his career resulting in publications and career advancements for his mentees. Dr. Qayyum’s interests in research are broad and range from patient satisfaction, readmission, and systems improvement to genetics and pharmacogenomics. He has been funded as Principal Investigator through National Institute of Health (NIH/NHLBI), Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), and American Heart Association. He enjoys working with large datasets whether these datasets originate from electronic health records (EHR) or produced by NextGen sequencing instruments, such as RNA-sequencing. Dr. Qayyum has over 150 peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, and national presentations to his credit.
