I was a part of the organizing committee of the Greater Horn Oncology Symposium (GHOS). This is a conference that brings together radiation oncologists, medical physicists, and industry members from N. America and Europe along with those from East Africa as a platform for educational discussions and collaborations for radiation oncology personnel internationally - all to advance cancer care in the region. In September 2022, GHOS took place in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania in collaboration with the American Brachytherapy Society International Subcommittee and the Tanzanian hub of cancer care - the Ocean Road Cancer Institute. Radiating Hope sponsors this conference is \"a nonprofit that identifies and secures available radiation machines, transports them to developing countries in need and trains staff on how to use these life-saving machines.\" My involvement with GHOS started with designing a save-the-date flyer for the symposium which I sent to a number of East African oncologists and medical physicists as a part of the invitation process. Leading up to the symposium, I followed up with my group of assigned participants frequently, answering questions about symposium logistics, presentation topics, and arranging for travel/lodging accommodations. I researched the participants’ positions in the healthcare system and helped to expand our network of potential East African physician symposium participants.
